About Us

Our firm traces its origin to 1904 when it was established by William F. Weiss under his name. James D. Miller joined the firm in the mid 1920's and married one of Mr. Weiss' daughters. In 1939, following the death of Mr. Weiss, the firm was renamed James D. Miller & Co. Currently, the firm consists of four partners, and seven additional accountants, all of whom are CPAs; there are also three administrative staff members. Throughout its history, the firm has provided a broad array of accounting and tax services. All CPAs in the firm are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and their respective State Societies of CPAs, and thus are subject to strict requirements for continuing professional education. The Firm itself is a member of the AICPA.

Our firm has participated in the New York State Quality Review Program, as established by the Peer Review Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, for the 25+ years. Since we perform attest services for our clients, the Quality Review Program requires that we engage outside independent auditors to inspect our system of Quality Control for our accounting and auditing practice on a triennial basis. We have consistently received a pass rating (the highest rating) with our most recent report dated November 25, 2014.

We strive to know all our clients well and thereby serve their individual and often unique needs. Staff members are assigned to clients based on specific levels of skill with emphasis on maintaining continuity of staff thorough familiarity with each client's financial affairs. Our success with this is evidenced by our continuous service to a number of families spanning multiple generations. Our clients value our expertise, integrity and thoughtful approach. While we are proud of our long history and traditions, we also work consistently towards being at the cutting edge of the new technological resources available to us.
